Fukugi (Garcinia subelliptica) has been planted around Okinawan villages for centuries as shelter. Thick leathery dark leaves on a naturally dense, upright frame. Long used as a windbreak on exposed coastal sites, where it forms a solid wall of foliage.

One of the most wind-resistant trees available, long used as a shelter belt in coastal Okinawa and equally suited to Malaysian seafront resorts.
